Meet the Hyland Bikes Staff

Our mission at Hyland Bikes is simple. We are here to help you in the best way possible and to make you completely satisfied with your bike. Our knowledgeable staff is here to go out of the way to make this happen. There is no job too big or too small for Hyland Bikes.

The staff at Hyland Family Bicycles has many years of experience in bicycle sales and service. Their goal of complete customer satisfaction is a family tradition through three generations of the Hyland family and their staff.

Bill Hyland Sr. (AKA SR.) started working in the bike shop as a kid, when his mother and father ran the original bike shop in Willow Glen. Today, as the bike shop owner, he is an expert in sales and service for all bikes: road, mountain, tandem, unicycles and three-wheelers. Bill is always happy to take the time needed to get the perfect bike or right piece of gear for you. Bill also loves to ride! He rides road and mountain bikes as well as fixies, and if you’re lucky you might see him on his custom built tall bike. Whether he’s riding to work or just out on a ride with his wife, you are likely to see him on the bike somewhere in the bay area. Bill’s favorite mountain bike rides are the Saratoga Gap Long Ridge Trail and Wilder Ranch.

Bill Hyland Jr. (AKA BJ, Junior) is a third-generation Hyland bike shop guy. He is the co-owner of the shop, and specializes in finding the perfect products to fill the store and fit your needs. As an avid rider, he has hands-on experience which allows him to help you make decisions in all areas of the store. A grad from San Jose State, BJ is now running the store and always trying to take it to the next level. He enjoys spending time with customers and loves to talk bikes. When it comes to riding, variety is the key, but his favorite spots are UCSC, Demo, and Calabasas.

Mark Sanfillipo (AKA Mysterion) Mark’s our shop manager who can handle it all. Mark has been with Hyland since the summer of 2005. Also our master wheel builder, Mark has years of experience helping people with bikes of all sorts. A lead in our service department, he will tackle any job you bring in and do it with a smile. A grad from UCSC, Mark is now with us full time and is really part of the family. You are likely to see Mark out on his bike but never know which one. It could be a road or mountain, a track or BMX, but it might be the moto. However it may be, you’re sure to see him out there riding.

Martin Ramirez is our go-to service man when you need to get it done. He has been a professional bicycle mechanic for over 20 years. In this time you bet he has come across just about every type of bicycle, and is confident in working on them all. From old to new you will find tools on his wall you might be able to identify, and Martin uses them all. Martin is a bike-only kind of guy. He rides everywhere and doesn’t own a car by choice. He enjoys long bike tours on his road bike with friends and relaxing on his days off.

Colby Talley is a student at San Jose State and has been part of our crew for several years. He is a great guy to talk to when you are looking for a new bike of any kind, or need help with a unique technical issue that has you stumped. Colby has done the research and put in the time to become a great employee at Hyland. He keeps us all current on new products entering our market, as well as changes going on in the industry. Colby is a wealth of knowledge in the shop and a great dude to ride with.

Justin Reinschmidt ( AKA Chain Whip) is our guy in the shop who is typically showing the scars from riding. He goes big and isn’t afraid to pay the price with road rash. He is also an expert on the sales floor. Justin has a great record for helping people narrow down and find just the right bike for their needs. He can talk technical mountain bike with you, or talk to your kids about BMX jumping, or everything in between. He is a great mechanic, and great rider, both which helps him daily at the shop. Next time you’re in ask him about how he got the nickname “Chain Whip.”

Lee Lewis is no doubt our BMX expert at Hyland. His passion lies in BMX, which has helped dial in our 20” lineup, and raised the bar for new BMX products and brands sold in the shop. His experience from working in shops and riding all types of bikes has given him a solid foundation in this arena. Lee’s love to ride is one reason he builds and sells bikes. If you want to know everything about our BMX bikes, Lee is a great guy to talk with. You might drive by the shop and see Lee on a test ride doing a wheelie around the building, or you might catch him on his bike at Post Office going big! Either way, make sure to say “what’s up”!

Paul Rupe (AKA Tall Paul, Tower 1) is easy to spot because he’s the tallest guy at the shop. His bike skills have come a long way since he started at Hyland, and now can tackle a wide range of jobs. Paul is one of our sales guys, but you will also see him on the back wrenching on bikes with the rest of the crew. Known as the soft spoken guy in the shop, Paul can make anyone feel comfortable when shopping at Hyland and he is always willing to help. Paul rides a lot. If it’s his daily commute, or a mountain ride with some friends, he will tackle it on two wheels. Come in today and let Paul help find the right bike for you.

Michael Roderick (AKA Mike, The Lone Wolf) is one of our newer faces at Hyland. He has been a friend of the shop and a bike mechanic for years, and recently joined the Hyland team. Mike came to the shop with a wealth of service knowledge, and is one of our head builders. Whether you need a tune up on your baby to get her running smooth again, or want to check out something new, Mike can handle it. Mike commutes to work, rides for fun on the weekends, and rarely does a day go by that he doesn’t ride.

Kendra Wallace (Ken Bob) is the newest of the Hyland crew, but part of the Hyland family, so it’s like she’s always been here. Her skills on the sales floor are exceptional, and she continues to push for new and better products for us to carry. Her ability to help a variety of people on all types of bikes is a strong point for Kendra. You will find her approach to bike selection is very personal and she can explain components to even the most basic riders. Kendra loves to take time with people giving them a unique experience you will only find at Hyland. She also loves to ride, so keep a lookout for Kendra on her cruiser riding to work, or out on the trails.
